The Brilliant World of Tom Gates – Read it and go HaHaHa by Liz Pichon

The blurb says…

I’m Tom Gates. When my teachers don’t have their BEADY EYES on me, I like to draw pictures and think of ways to annoy DELIA.

This is a really great book. I like it because it’s really funny and there are pictures on every page which breaks the writing up. I don’t need to use my reading ruler with this book.

Tom Gates loves a girl called Amy but she thinks he’s quite weird. He is making a band with his best friend Derek, which is called Dog Zombies and he loves tormenting his sister Delia. My favourite ways were giving her a caramel wafer bar wrapper that was empty but was folded to look full and sitting on the toilet reading a book and when Delia knocked on the door he shouted ‘Busy!’

There are 11 of these books but I’ve the first one. I can’t wait to read the rest. I’m going to start the second one tomorrow at Brownie Camp.

How To Train Your Dragon Books – Cressida Cowell

The best books in the world

When I was little before I discovered these amazing books I wanted to be a princess. Then my mum read me this book and the adventures of the scrawny viking Hiccup Haddock III and his dragon Toothless changed me. We have read the whole series and my favourite character apart from Hiccup is Camicazi from the Bog Burglar tribe. She has a beautiful sassy Mood Dragon called Storm Fly.( Her Mum is called Big Boobied Bertha – ‘These boobies have killed once – and they will kill again!’)

Toothless doing some dragon research

The font is ok, a bit small and it might be tricky to read, but I think these books are best shared with someone anyway – especially if you do the voices.

I think these books are the best present I’ve ever had, they have shown me that it’s good to be adventurous and have an imagination. I LOVE THESE BOOKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

100/10 – breaking the scales, the ultimate best books.

Goth Girl and the Wuthering Fright – Chris Riddell

These books are amazingly good. They are about a girl called Ada who lives in a gothic mansion called Gastly-Gorm Hall and she has a lot of adventures. Her father is Lord Goth and he is a hobby horse riding poet. There is the Attic Club, the people in the Attic Club are William Cabbage, Ada, Emily Cabbage, Ruby Kipling – the kitchen maid, Arthur Halford and Kingsley Travers – the chimney sweep. The Attic Club solve mysteries around the gothic mansion.

The text is a good size, but the best thing is the amazing illustrations.

I love these books I hope Chris Riddell writes more!!

A Series of Unfortunate Events – The Wide Window by Lemony Snickett

These books are a bit sinister, I wouldn’t recommend them to people who don’t like scary things. But I think they are really exciting and full of mysteries and problems. The Beaudelaire orphans are clever, kind hearted and determined to defeat Count Olaf. I would like to be Violet and I like it when she ties her hair back because that means all the cogs in her head are whirring and a new invention is coming up. There is one picture in every chapter and the size of the writing is ok with my reading ruler.

Fing – David Walliams

David Walliams’ ‘Fing’ is a splendid book because it has a moral for life that if you do bad things they will come back to haunt you. It was really, really good – I couldn’t put it down and I read it all in one day.

The font size is not too big but is well spaced out and there are pictures on every page.
